Gay Rights Group Protest Despite Arrests
by: Brad Douglass
The Gay rights group, Soulforce-Q, returned to the campus of Union University Tuesday despite three of its members being arrested Monday for trespassing. The stop in Jackson is part of what the group calls its "Equality Ride". They're traveling the country in an effort to promote fair treatment at colleges for students who are gay, lesbian and bi-sexual. Today, the group stationed itself at Union's entrances and offered students a chance to meet them off-campus and talk. Caitlin McIntyre, a Soulforce-Q member explains the reason for their visit to Union. "There are certainly gay, lesbian, transgender, and bisexual students on this campus and I think it's really important that they're recognized and that their safety is a priority of the university as well", she says.
The Soulforce "Equality Ride's" next stop is Louisville, Kentucky, Wednesday.
