 School systems across Tennessee are evaluating their performances as the state released the 2008 report card for schools today.


Gay Rights Group Protests Despite Arrests

     The Gay rights group, Soulforce-Q, returned to the campus of Union University Tuesday despite three of its members being arrested Monday for trespassing. The stop in Jackson is part of what the group calls its "Equality Ride".  They're traveling the country in an effort to promote fair treatment at colleges for students who are gay, lesbian and bi-sexual. 


Investigation Nets 16 Arrests

by: Keli McAlister      Sixteen people in Lake County have been arrested after months of investigation by the West Tennessee Drug Task Force.  Agents expect more arrests could follow.    Monday night, agents worked overtime to serve drug indictments handed down by the Lake County Grand Jury earlier in the day.  "This operation was a six month, street-level operation conducted in the cities of Tiptonville and Ridgely," said Rob Harrison, Special Agent in Charge of the 29th Judicial District for the West Tennessee Drug Task Force.  Currently more than $3,000 in cash has been seized along with crack cocaine and drug paraphernalia.  


Space Heater Leaves Family Home In Flames

      With West Tennessee weather taking a turn to colder temperatures, many find themselves turning on auxiliary heating sources in an effort to stay warm. Carroll County Fire Officials said a Bruceton home went up in flames Sunday night possibility due to a faulty space heater. Now that family is dealing with the loss of their home.

Blown Tire Sends Three to Hospital

   Investigators with the Tennessee Highway Patrol are investigating a violent wreck on Interstate 40.  The crash happened around 12:30 p.m. near mile marker 94.  According to reports, a tire on a sport utility vehicle blew causing the driver the lose control.  The vehicle flipped, ejecting three of the people inside.  One person was airlifted from the site while the others were taken to nearby hospitals by ambulance.  The extent of their injuries are unknown at this time.


East Jackson Home Gets Rude Awakening

   An East Jackson neighborhood got an  late-night wake-up call after an S.U.V crashed into a house.

     A Jackson man is free on bond after facing a judge Friday morning on drug charges.


"Hire Vets First" Month

       The Tennessee Career Center honored our country's veterans in a special way on Friday.  The Center on Carriage House Drive held an open house to mark "Hire Vets First" Month.  State Labor Commissioner James Neeley said Friday's job fair in Jackson and at other locations across the state are designed to help veterans and military personnel transition back to civilian life when their tours of duty ends.  Mark Chandler with the Jackson office of the Tennessee Career Center said, "Beyond the aspect of the law, I think it's just incumbent that we recognize them for their service and sacrifice to the country."  The Tennessee Career Centers have a veterans staff which provides one-on-one services in matching employer needs with veterans' skills.


Shooting Suspect in Court

  A Jackson woman at the center of an apparent lover's quarrel is officially charged after police say she opened fire on another woman.
